Rationale
The 18th PSSST Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference is being organized to showcase soil science as an important discipline in the field of agriculture. It will particularly highlight the importance of soil and water conservation for food security and sustaining essential functions of ecosystem. This important event will give the participants from the academe, government, and private sectors an opportunity to interact and share experiences and research outputs in the field of soil science and its related disciplines. This will also enable them to upgrade their technical expertise, renew personal acquaintances, and meet new friends of the same scientific interests.
About the Venue
Xavier university in Cagayan de Oro City was founded in 1933 as a high school for the boys. Twenty years after, the College of Agriculture was started by Father William Masterson. In 1958, Ateneo de Cagayan was granted a university status and became the first university in Mindanao. In honor of St. Francis Xavier, Ateneo de Cagayan became Xavier university.
The university is now the leading institution in Northern Mindanao offering courses that respond to the demands of the rapidly growing and developing region in the Philippines. More information about Xavier University can be found at http://www.xu.edu.ph.
Cagayan de Oro (CDO) is the capital city of Misamis Oriental, a province in Region X.
Due to very aggressive tourism campaign of the local government, CDO has become one of the tourist destinations in Northern Mindanao. It is famous for its whitewater rafting adventure which every tourist would love to try. Though highly urbanized, nature-loving people can still enjoy staying at CDO. Aside from Mapawa nature park, tourists can definitely enjoy Monique cave and Catanico Falls.
